It was the perfect start to the new season for promotion hopefuls Bishop's Stortford, Old Albanian and Taunton last weekend while the Redingesens, Bury St Edmunds and Barnes found life tough on their first day in National Two South. Here is a preview of what is to come this Saturday.

Clifton v Dorking

Clifton started the new season with an excellent victory over one of the promotion challengers Worthing and now take on Dorking, who finished fourth in this division last season. Clifton ended last year in a disappointing 12th place with seven home victories to their name.

As for Dorking, they are a team that has struggled in 2015. Despite winning four of their last five games last campaign, they would've felt a play-off was the bare minimum on January 1st , but it slipped away from them. They didn't begin this season that well either with a defeat at home to Cambridge so now they will be looking to bounce back this Saturday.  Dorking won 11 times on the road last season - which was the 2nd highest in the league. Clifton will know this and will want their revenge after two defeats to Dorking in 2014/15.

Bishop's Stortford v Cambridge

Early promotion favourties Bishop's Stortford began with a superb win and performance against Bury St Edmunds last week and now face Cambridge in their first opening home fixture. Stortford missed out on promotion to National One last season after defeat to Ampthill in the playoffs, so they will be keen to go up automatically this season. Stortford won 12 games at home last campaign and beat Cambridge 32-18 in this fixture last season on exactly the same weekend.

In terms of Cambridge, that win over Dorking will have filled the side with a lot of belief that they can better their seventh place finish of last season. However, this game will be no easy task for them. Cambridge won six games away from home last campaign.

Canterbury v Launceston

Canterbury clinched a last minute win at Barnes last weekend and they now face Launceston who may well still be licking their wounds after being on the receiving end of a drumming by Old Albanian. The hosts finished in 11th place last season and won nine of their 15 games at home.

Launceston will have to pick themselves up and dust themselves down after their 3-47 defeat to the Old Albanian. They had a very inconsistent year last season and they have now lost their last three National Two South matches. Their last win came away at Canterbury in April of this year, so they will be hoping for a repeat this weekend.

Chinnor v Bury St Edmunds

Chinnor will be wanting a quick response after defeat to Southend last week as they host National Three London and South East champions Bury St Edmunds this Saturday. Chinnor finished in sixth place last season, winning 11 of out of 15 home matches.

In terms of Bury, they had a tough start at home to Bishop's Stortford and this away trip certainly wont be easy. Bury won eight away games last season on their way to the title, but it will be intriguing to see how they get on in their first National Two away outing.

Old Albanian v Redingesens

The only side to come down into National Two South from National One were Old Albanian. They showed, in tremendous fashion, that they don't want to stick around in the fourth tier of English rugby for long with their win over Launceston. The OA's finished just one point from safety last season and won 12 games which was the 2nd highest in the bottom half of the table.

As for the Redingsens, their opening defeat at home to Redruth would have given them a real taste of National Two South and their first away assignment is a tricky one. The Rams won nine games on the road last season, but this will be a whole new kettle of fish for the side.

Redruth v Southend

Both of these sides head into Round Two after opening weekend wins. Redruth won on the road against Bury St Edmunds and return back to The Recreation Ground where they won 11 league games last season.

In terms of Southend, after a tough season last year, they began in scintillating style with that win over Chinnor. Their away record last season wasn't great as they won just three games from 15 matches. Their last win on the road came against Dorking at the end of March. Redruth won both fixtures between the sides last season.

Taunton v Barnes

Taunton finished just two points off the play-offs last season and judging by their opening day win against the Old Elthamians, they certainly want to be promoted automatically this time around. It was a breathtaking win and now they welcome National Three play-off winners Barnes to Hyde Park. The Titans have now won eight of their last 10 competitive matches.

As for Barnes, they were unlucky not to get anything from their game against Canterbury, but nevertheless it was a morale boosting performance for their first outing in National Two South. Last season, Barnes won eight games on the road and in fact, they have won seven of their last eight away fixtures.

Worthing v Old Elthamians

After impressing in the second half of last season, hopes were high for Worthing that they could push for a top two finish this season. However, that optimism may have disappeared after their defeat to Clifton last weekend. They are now back on home soil as they host the OE's this weekend. Worthing won 11 games at home last season.

As for the visitors, they have won just two of their last 10 National Two South matches and to play Taunton and now Worthing away to open the season is tough going. The OE's were victoriousaway from home on just four occasions last season , but one of those games was against Worthing where they won 30-33.
