Nate Ebner's campaign at the Olympics ended with USA losing to the title contenders Fiji in their last group stage game. However, his journey to the grand stage has been an incredible one.
After becoming the youngest player on the USA to feature in the national sevens team, Ebner went on to play for the national Under-19 and Under-20 teams as well.
During his college days, he played for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, and was picked by the New England Patriots in the 2012 draft of the National Football League. He was named the most Most Valuable Player in the 2014 season.
To pursue his dreams of representing the national team at the Olympics, Ebner joined the sevens training squad and was eventually picked in the final 12-man squad by the head coach Mike Friday becoming one of the few players to have played multiple sports.
In USA's victory over Brazil, Ebner scored a try but was also sin-binned while in the final group stage encounter against Fiji, the Dublin born star crossed over once again late in the game but could not prevent a 24-19 defeat.
