Newcastle Falcons 17-12 Gloucester, Kingston Park

Newcastle Falcons brought an end to their losing streak as they edged out Gloucester Rugby 17-12 in the 21st round of the Gallagher Premiership at Kingston Park on Friday.

Newcastle's win came despite a red card to Richard Palframan, who left the field before the end of the opening quarter.

This is also sixth win for Newcastle in 17 games as they now are at 10th place with Bath just four points behind them and an additional game in hand while Gloucester are at ninth position.

It took Gloucester just five minutes to open their account as hooker Seb Blake scored from a tap penalty five metres out but Santiago Carreras missed out on the conversion.

The response from the Falcons came in the 12th minute as Elliott Obatoyinbo fed Adam Radwan after sprinting past four defenders and Brett Connon's conversion put Newcastle two points ahead.

The Falcons were down to 14 players as Palframan was sent off for a high tackle in midfield. With the numerical advantage on their side, Gloucester immediately made impact as Ollie Thorley dotted down at the back of a line out but this time Connon kicked the conversion making it 7-12.

Just a the stroke of half-time Connon kicked a three-pointer narrowing the deficit of the hosts to just two points at the end of the opening half despite losing Matias Orlando to injury.

The early second-half exchanges saw the Falcons earning prime field position from a Matias Moroni 50-22, kicking a penalty to the corner but failing to convert pressure into points.

Despite being down on numbers, Newcastle ensured Gloucester were kept scoreless and soon went into the lead as Obatoyinbo collected a cross field kick to dive in the corner and Connon improved it making it 17-12.

With 12 minutes left in the game, Connon missed a three-pointer but it did not cost Newcastle as they completed a thrilling five point victory.
