Bristol 30-12 Newcastle, Ashton Gate

Harry Randall starred with a double as Bristol Bears sealed a 30-12 victory over Newcastle Falcons in the 17th round of the Gallagher Premiership at Ashton Gate on Friday.

This is fourth victory for Bristol in 13 games as they go past Newcastle to the 9th position in the table with the Falcons in danger of slipping to the bottom position as Bath face London Irish on Saturday.

Bristol got off to a promising start as scrum-half Harry Randall accepted a pass after Newcastle's defence was breached but James Williams missed out on the conversion.

The lead lasted just 14 minutes as Newcastle responded with Gary Graham powering from close range in the left corner and Connon improved it making it 5-7.

The 20th minute saw Chris Vui reached out an arm to score a converted try before Williams kicked a penalty goal at the stroke of the half-time to extend the home side's lead to 15-7 at the end of the opening half.

Bristol extended the momentum into the second half as Randall dived over from the back of a ruck for his second try and Williams followed with the extras to make it 22-7.

The end of the third quarter saw Gabriel Ibitoye sin-binned for a deliberate knock on and the visitors made use of the numerical advantage as Jamie Blamire scored from the back of a maul to score but Connon missed out on the conversion as the scoreline remained at 22-12.

As Bristol infringed offside, Williams kicked a long-range penalty goal before Fitz Harding secured the bonus point with a dive over the line at the back of a line out sealing a 30-12 victory.
