British and Irish Lions and England lock Maro Itoje lauded Alun Wyn Jones for his recovery techniques following a dislocated shoulder.

The Wales skipper sustained the blow during the warm-up game against Japan at Murrayfield on 26th June and was initially expected to miss the entire Lions' tour of South Africa.

However, the 35-year-old made a stunning recovery to rejoin the Lions squad last week and even featured in the tour game against Stormers where he played close to 30 minutes without discomfort.

Jones was restored the Lions captaincy by Warren Gatland for the opening Test against South Africa to be played in Cape Town on Saturday and will be partnering with Itoje in the second row.

“Alun Wyn looks like a 24-year-old. I don’t know what recovery method he’s using but somehow his hair’s growing back on the top of his head as well!” Itoje said.

“Whatever recovery he’s using I need to get myself on it. Luckily my hair’s on point! He’s looking good.

“He is a man of a lot of experience, he’s the tour captain and has that kind of presence about him.

“It’s great to have him back. He was desperate to be back and desperate to do whatever he can to help make the tour successful.”
