Lewis Moody: ‘Helping to improve grassroots has always been really important for me’

Last week, Talking Rugby Union spoke with Lewis Moody about the NatWest Rugby Force’s 2017 programme.

As part of the initiative, the former England international has been using his expertise at Bolton RUFC over the last year as an honouree board member and he is now lending his coaching knowledge to another club.

Moody said: “Over the year, I have done a bit of travelling up to Bolton Rugby Club which has been a really enjoyable experience just to give them some of my ‘expertise’!

“Being involved with the club and helping out in training sessions, going dinners etc has just been great because you are helping the club evolve and it is all about grassroots engagement.  The focus isn’t on just one area.

“This year, my involvement with NatWest Rugby Force will be more of an ambassadorial role at a club rather than being an honouree board member.

“That means that a club which registers to the programme will be able utilise my coaching skills and I will be able to come down and be involved with the club on the NatWest Rugby Force weekend in the summer.”

Moody will be with the club on June 24th-25th and he cannot speak highly enough about the work NatWest Rugby Force has done and is doing since he became involved with the initiative.

He added: “There is a huge amount going on and there has been a huge amount already done by NatWest Rugby Force so it is just an awesome programme to be involved with.  Grassroots has always been really important for me. I support my local club, Bradford on Avon, so to be involved in this and support more grassroots rugby clubs is something very close to my heart.
