Leicester Tigers prop Francois van Wyk has been handed a three-week ban following his red card incident during the recently concluded Gallagher Premiership game against Bristol Bears.

Van Wyk was sent-off in the 68th minute during the game at Ashton Gate for a dangerous tackle on Bristol front row Ellis Genge.

The 31-year-old faced an independent disciplinary hearing chaired by Oliver Clark with Alastair Campbell and James Wilson on Tuesday and was proved guilty of breaching World Rugby Law 9.13.

His suspension can however be reduced by a week to two games if he successfully completes World Rugby's Coaching Intervention Programme.

The suspension means van Wyk will now miss Leicester's games against Ospreys and Clermont.
