South Africa have made a late forced change ahead of the second round of the Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand with Bongi Mbonambi ruled out due to a knee injury.

The 31-year-old sustained the blow during a training session ahead of the weekend's game in Johannesburg.

He will now be replaced by hooker Joseph Dweba, who will be making his third Test appearance for the Springboks.

The news was confirmed by South Africa head coach Jacques Nienaber.

"Joseph has been working hard at training and he's been waiting patiently for his chance, and we feel that it doesn't get better than facing the All Blacks, who are one of the best teams in the world," said Nienaber.
