Wasps fly-half Jimmy Gopperth will continue to serve a three-week ban for striking Mathew Tait after the club's appeal against the length of the ban failed.

Gopperth was sin-binned during Sunday's Aviva Premiership clash with Leicester Tigers after colliding with Tait as both players competed for a high ball.

He admitted the offence during a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday before Wasps challenged the suspension handed to Gopperth.

Confirming the length of the ban would be upheld, the Rugby Football Union said: "The appeal by Wasps over the length of the sanction given to Jimmy Gopperth has been dismissed this evening."
