Stormers have been dealt an injury blow in the ongoing Rainbow Cup SA with fly-half Kade Wolhuter to miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

Wolhuter ruptured his knee ligaments during the opening round of the Pro14 Rainbow Cup SA encounter against Sharks where he was replaced in the 55th minute by Abner van Reenen.

The 19-year-old kicked 13 points during the game which Sharks went on to win with a 30-33 margin.

Wolhuter confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the season through his Instagram account.

"The game we love so much is full of the most extreme ups and downs," Kade Wolhuter wrote.

"Unfortunately yesterday afternoons opening game of the Rainbow Cup SA vs the Sharks will be my last for the season after tearing my ACL during the match.

"Really gutted to be leaving the boys @dhlstormers so early on in the season but at the same time looking forward to the adventure to getting back out on the pitch.

"Thank you so much for all the messages of support, they don’t go unnoticed!"

Stormers will face Lions in the second round of the tournament on 15th May.
