Hurricanes have confirmed that loose forward Blake Gibson will join the club ahead of the 2022 season.

Gibson started his professional rugby debut with provincial side Auckland in 2014 with his Super Rugby debut for Blues coming in 2015 and has gone on to make 54 appearances for them.

The news follows after Owen Franks and Dominic Bird will join the club next season while Jordie Barrett and Salesi Rayasi have also extended their stay with the Wellington based franchise.

The 26-year-old also was part of the New Zealand Under 20 side playing seven times in 2015.

“After seven seasons with the Blues I’m excited for a new challenge with the Hurricanes in 2022,” he told the club's official website.

“I’ve heard great things about the coaching group and I like the look of the squad that’s being put together.”

“Hopefully I can bring something new to the back row and also plenty off the park.”

Hurricanes forwards coach Chris Gibbes is confident that Gibson will add more experience to the squad.

“We’re excited by what Blake offers as a player and his skillset will complement our loose forward mix and the way we like to play,” he said.

“While he’s still relatively young, he has plenty of experience and we’re looking forward to what he can bring to the squad next year.”

Hurricanes finished fourth in the Super Rugby Trans Tasman campaign with four wins from five matches.
