Danny Care scored the only try of the game as Harlequins saw off a strong Castres challenge to win the opening match of the 2014/15 European Champions Cup 25-9 at Twickenham Stoop.

The reliable boot of Nick Evans provided the remainder of the home side's points and three penalties from Rory Kockott were all Castres had to show for their concerted efforts.

Neither side could be separated at the break after a tight first half produced just six points. Evans replied to Kockott's sixth minute penalty with one of his own after 22 minutes.

The two fly-halves traded kicks again early in the second half before Harlequins began to take control of the contest.

Evans kicked two more penalties and then set up scrum-half Care to cross in the 65th minute before the conversion put Harlequins 19-6 ahead.

Kockott scored his third penalty on 68 minutes but Castres were unable to mount a fightback and it was Harlequins that finished the stronger with Evans landing two further penalties to seal victory.

The other two sides in Pool Two, Leinster and Wasps, meet in the final game of the round on Sunday.
