South Africa are set to recall Leicester Tigers fly-half Handre Pollard in the Rugby World Cup squad.

The decision follows after Malcolm Marx is set to miss the remainder of the tournament after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament.

Pollard was instrumental in South Africa's World Cup final victory over England in the 2019 edition where he kicked six out of eight penalties and two conversions as well steering them to a 12-32 victory.

However, the 29-year-old was controversially left out of the squad for the upcoming showpiece event in France citing fitness concerns.

Pollard recently featured for Leicester Tigers in their recently concluded Premiership Rugby Cup game against Sale Sharks where he featured in the final half hour kicking a penalty goal before he was sin-binned in the closing stage.

Earlier, South Africa head coach Jacques Nienaber said he will have his eyes on the Leicester game but any decision on the replacement for Marx will be taken only after their encounter against Romania this weekend.

“We will definitely watch the Leicester Tigers versus Sale game,” admitted Nienaber.

“We want to focus on the Romania game. We will only make a decision on Monday.”
