Bath Rugby have confirmed that utility forward GJ van Velze has will be part of the club in the 2023/24 season.

The 35-year-old started his career with Bulls and also represented South Africa Under 19 and Under 20 teams previously.

He initially joined Bath Rugby in the 2022/23 season and will now have a second year with the club. Van Velze has made over 150 Premiership appearances across Worcester Warriors, Northampton Saints and Bath Rugby.

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan is delighted with van Velze remaining with the club for a second season.

“GJ really impressed us last season and it’s great to be able to welcome him back for a second year," said van Graan to the club's official website.

“The experience he brings to the group is something you can’t teach.

“His calmness, both on and off the field, is just one of the attributes GJ brings to this side and I’m pleased we’re able to have both his playing ability and his vast experience again this season.”
