British and Irish Lions fly-half Jonathan Sexton played the series deciding final Test against New Zealand in Auckland with a fractured wrist according to reports.

Irish Independent went on to claim that the Ireland international suffered the blow during the second half of the Wellington Test which Lions went on to win 24-21 and despite the setback the 32-year-old was named in the starting line-up for the final Test with a heavy strapping on his wrist.

The report further added that Sexton also ruptured a tendon in his ankle during the first half of the final Test that ended in a 15-15 draw and continued playing until the 72nd minute when he was finally replaced by Ben Te'o.

Even though, there are still some concerns about his wrist, Sexton is set to be available for the pre-season preparations for his club Leinster and the news would not have come at a better time for the head coach Leo Cullen, who will miss the services of Garry Ringrose and Robbie Henshaw for the start of the next season.

Sexton, who featured in the starting XV for the final two Tests played a total of 384 minutes in the Lions' tour of New Zealand which is sixth overall among the visitors.
