Former Wales international John Gwilliam has passed away at the age of 93.

Gwilliam has featured for Wales 23 times between 1947 and 1954 and during that phase, he had also captained the team 13 times.

He also led Wales when they clinched two Grand Slam victories during the Five Nations Championship in 1950 and 1952.

His last game was against England at Twickenham and in 2005, he was inducted into Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.

Gwilliam has also represented various clubs which include Cambridge University, Newport, Edinburgh Wanderers, Gloucester, London Welsh, Llanelli and Wasps.
