England duo Elliot Daly and Jamie George becomes the latest players to be withdrawn from the training squad ahead of the Six Nations opener against Scotland.

The news follows days after forward Courtney Lawes and hooker George McGuigan also pulled out of the squad due to injuries with Northampton lock David Ribbans and Bath hooker Tom Dunn replacing them.

Daly suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Saracens in the recently concluded Heineken Champions Cup fixture against Edinburgh.

Jamie George is also sidelined with a concussion during the same game and will have to undergo a return to play protocol prior to the game against the Dark Blues.

Newcastle hooker Jamie Blamire and Bath centre Ollie Lawrence have been called up to the squad by Steve Borthwick.

“The game against Scotland is a week on Saturday so there is plenty of water to go under the bridge between now and then,” Borthwick said on Monday.

“We have got a good squad and players who are desperate for the opportunity. Whenever there is a setback it opens up an opportunity for somebody else.

“Players have got to grab those opportunities with both hands and not let go. You need a squad where players are competing for places.

“We’ve got to build greater depth. These opportunities allow players to show they can be Test players.”
