A dominant eight-try performance from Lions saw them trounce Waratahs by 55-36 in their Super Rugby encounter at Emirates Airlines Park on Saturday.

Warren Whiteley (1'), Ruan Ackermann (14'), Rohan Janse van Rensburg (20'), Andries Coetzee (23') and Ross Cronje (32') scored tries for Lions in the first half while fly-half Elton Jantjies scored conversions on four occasions.

Waratahs first half which had two sin-bins in Reece Robinson and Sekope Kepu saw Rob Horne, Michael Hooper and Bryce Hegarty scoring the tries as they ended the first half trailing by 33-24 margin.

The second half from Lions started with a drop goal from Jantjies while van Rensburg strolled across for the second time in the game along with Sylvian Mahuza and Malcolm Marx to take the total past 50 points.

Meanwhile, David McDuling and Israel Folau were the only try scores for Waratahs in the second half as they lost the encounter by 19 points despite scoring five tries in it.
