Bath Rugby have announced that Edward Griffiths has been appointed as the new chairman of the Gallagher Premiership club.

The decision follows after Bruce Craig, who is also the owner of the club will step down from the role at the end of the year.

Griffiths already has the experience of being the chief executive of Saracens between 2008 and 2015 during which the club went on to reach the finals four times in which they clinched the titles two times. He was also the chief executive of South Africa Rugby when the team went on to win the 1995 World Cup.

He was also appointed as a consultant on a short-term in October following the club's dismal start in the ongoing season of the Gallagher Premiership and had recommended in hiring a dedicated defence coach.

“It is time to step aside from the role of Chairman. I will continue to support the club emotionally and financially and, do whatever I can for the club to be successful," said Craig to the club's official website.

“Ed has played a leadership role with Rugby World Cup and Premiership winning teams and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Bath Rugby.”
