Edinburgh Rugby on Tuesday confirmed its switch from Murrayfield to Myreside for the second half of the next season.

The Pro12 side have been playing at the home of Scottish rugby since 2004, which has 67,000 spectators capacity.

Edinburgh who receive an average of 4,500 fans per game, were frustrated by the lack of atmosphere they were able to generate at the Murrayfield arena. The switch to Myreside which is situated at the south-west of the city aims to generate a more impassioned reaction from the fans.

Jonny Petrie, Managing Director of Edinburgh Rugby believes the move to be a step in the right direction and his team is delighted to play at Myreside.

"This is a hugely positive step for Edinburgh Rugby and we are delighted at the opportunity to play our home matches at Myreside.

"This is about building a strong future for the club at a home ground in the city that better suits our needs and improves the matchday experience for fans and players alike."

Petrie expressed his gratitude to the George Watson's College for offering their support and he hopes to make a smooth transition over coming months.

"I'd like to thank George Watson's College for proposing the idea and for their support in working with us to develop the concept into a credible plan.

"We will now be liaising closely with all relevant parties to ensure a smooth transition over the coming months."

Edinburgh will have the choice of returning to Murrayfield for major games as they plan to stay put their administrative functions and training facilities whereas captain's runs will be hosted at Myreside.

Murrayfield is scheduled to host the upcoming Pro12 final on Saturday 28th of May.
