Connacht 21-12 Ulster Rugby, The Sportsground

Connacht managed to complete a double over Ulster in Pro14 this season as they sealed a 21-12 victory at the Sportsground on Friday.

Earlier, the two teams met during the Round 6 of the competition at Kingspan Stadium with Connacht winning 15-22. Connacht with 36 points now are at the second position in Conference A while Ulster are at second place in Conference B with 33 points.

Connacht were very good with the scrum early on and it paid them dividends with Shane Delahunt and Bundee Aki crossing over in the 13th and 20th minutes. Jack Carty kicked both the conversions as Connacht raced to 14-0.

As the half-time was approaching, Ulster managed a breakthrough that came after a spill from Cian Kelleher allowing winger Angus Kernohan to touchdown with John Cooney improving it as they reduced the gap to seven points at the end of the first half.

Connacht found early momentum in the second half with their third try coming from Caolin Blade in the 43rd minute and Carty's conversion made the scoreline 21-7. Carty had a chance to extend the lead for the hosts but missed a penalty at the end of the third quarter but Ulster had their own problems with Henry Speight leaving the field with a knee injury.

The visitors had their chance when Connacht were reduced to 14-men temporarily in the 67th minute when Ultan Dillane was yellow-carded but all Ulster could manage was a Jordi Murphy try in the 68th minute as they succumbed to a 21-12 defeat.
