Stormers 11-17 Chiefs, DHL Newlands
Scorecard

Damian McKenzie kicked four points for Chiefs as they managed to overcome Stormers with a 11-17 win in the quarter-final clash of the 2017 Super Rugby season at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

After the first quarter went without a point, fullback SP Marais got Stormers off the mark with a 23rd minute penalty but Chiefs bounced back with three straight three pointers from McKenzie as they finished the first half with a six point lead.

Flanker Siya Kolisi brought down the difference between the two teams to just one point with his try early in the second half but the conversion did not pan out right for the hosts.

Even though McKenzie kicked his fourth penalty, a sin-bin to Sam Cane in the 59th minute provided some respite to Stormers, who were four point behind at that stage.

However, they could not quite capitalise on the advantage with only Marais managing to slot a penalty during that phase. The game entered the final phase with Chiefs having a slender one point lead and replacement Shaun Stevenson calmed the nerves with the decisive touchdown in the 75th minute to complete a six point victory.

Chiefs will now face Crusaders at AMI Stadium in the semi-final.
