Scarlets have confirmed that Scotland international Blade Thomson has signed a new deal with the Pro14 club.

Blade's signing follows the likes of Wyn Jones, Aaron Shingler and Ryan Elias, who have also committed their future to the club.

Having played for Hurricanes between 2013 and 2018, the 30-year-old joined Scarlets ahead of the 2018/19 season and has made 31 appearances for the Welsh regional side since then.

Thomson also featured for New Zealand Under 20 side in 2010. He became eligible to represent Scotland through his grandfather and went on to make his Test debut for the Dark Blues in August 2019 and has gone on to play 10 games including three in 2019 World Cup.

“I am delighted to have signed a new contract with the Scarlets," he told the club's official website.

“Ever since myself and my family have arrived here, we have been made to feel welcome by everyone at the Scarlets, team-mates, staff and supporters.

“It has been a tough season for a number of reasons, but there is a huge amount of quality in the squad – experienced internationals and talented young players who have stepped up and made their mark.

“I am excited by what this group can produce in the coming years.”

Scarlets started their Rainbow Cup campaign with a 32-52 defeat to Dragons and will face Ospreys in the second round on 8th May.
