Leicester Tigers 24-10 Gloucester Rugby, Welford Road
Scorecard

Ben Youngs scored a double in the first 15 minutes as Leicester Tigers finally managed to open their account in the ongoing season of Aviva Premiership with a 24-10 victory over Gloucester at Welford Road on Saturday.

Youngs got Leicester off to an impressive start as he crossed over in the eighth and 14th minutes and soon Nick Malouf also crossed over for the home side. England international George Ford slotted all three conversions as Leicester Tigers started the game with a 21-0 lead at half time.

The Cherry and Whites did show some fight at the start of the second half with a touchdown from Josh Hohneck and a conversion followed by a penalty from Billy Twelvetrees to reduce the gap to 11 points.

However, they could not quite carry on with the momentum as they failed to add any more points in the game while Ford's penalty in the 63rd minute helped the Tigers completed a 14 point victory. However, they failed in their attempt to secure a bonus point.

Leicester Tigers head coach Matt O'Connor expressed disappointment on their performance in the second half in which they managed just three points.

"I thought we were very good in the first half, but we let ourselves down a little bit in the second half. We knew we had to be really good.

"We came out of the blocks, were very accurate, and our intensity in that first 25 minutes was phenomenal. That is what we have got to get more of.

"I knew they were going to come back at us quite hard - they were playing for pride at that point - and it was very disappointing that we let them in for a soft score at the start of the second half."
