Bath Rugby have confirmed the signing of Wales and British and Irish Lions international Rhys Webb for the remainder of the ongoing season.

Webb was released by French club Toulon last year and is set to rejoin Ospreys ahead of the 2020/21 season but will now link up with Stuart Hooper's side with immediate effect.

The 31-year-old missed the Wales' World Cup campaign due to his move to Toulon but was recalled for the ongoing Six Nations campaign after he signed a contract with Ospreys. He has made 32 appearances for Wales since his debut in 2012 and has also played two games for the British and Irish Lions that came during the New Zealand tour in 2017.

“We’re very excited to be bringing in an international talent to join the group, and to add some depth and quality to our scrum-half position at such a critical time of the year, and also after losing Max Green last month," said director of rugby Hooper to the official website of the club.

“Obviously there will be some familiar faces for him here, and a signing of this calibre is something I know will be welcomed by the squad. I’m sure he’ll settle in quickly and I know he is looking for some game time as soon as possible.

“We’re looking forward to getting him in the Blue, Black and White and out in front of our supporters at the Rec.”

Bath are positioned fifth in the Gallagher Premiership table with seven wins from 11 games and will host Bristol Bears in the 12th round at Recreation Ground on 1st March.
