Argentina flanker Pablo Matera is set to miss the upcoming Rugby World Cup quarter-final game against Wales at Stade de Marseille on Saturday following a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old left the field in the 24th minute with a hamstring tear during the decisive final game of the group stage clash against Japan and is in doubt for the remainder of the competition.

Matera is set to undergo a medical assessment to determine the extent of his injury and a probable timeframe for his return.

“Pablo Matera suffered a grade 3 tear in his right hamstring,” read a statement from Argentina.

Argentina finished second in Pool D with three wins from four matches.
