Northampton Saints have confirmed that prop Alex Waller and hooker Mikey Haywood have penned new deals with the Aviva Premiership club.

Both Haywood and Waller were part of the Northampton Saints Academy and have over 400 appearances combined for the Franklin Garden's outfit.

Haywood's debut for Northampton Saints came in 2011 while Waller who holds the record for the most consecutive appearance in the Premiership history made his professional rugby debut in 2009.

Northampton Saints rugby director Jim Mallinder is pleased that both Haywood and Waller continue to remain with the club.

“It’s been great to have seen the two of them develop into the players they are today.

“Both of them have played a large part in the club’s history so far and no doubt they are to be a big part of the club’s future.

“We’re delighted they’ve chosen to stay at Saints.”

Meanwhile, Northampton chief executive Mark Darbon lavished praise on the duo and believes their extension with the club sets a precedent for the emerging Academy players.

“We’re very happy to have extended the contracts of two more Academy products in Alex and Mikey,” he said.

“We not only want to build a world class team but build that with a backbone of home grown talent.

“It’s a great testament to our Academy system and the two have been a huge part of the club’s success over the years. We’re very happy they have chosen to re-commit to the Saints.”
