We are not scared of England - Rob Evans

Wales prop Rob Evans claims they are not "scared" of England ahead of Saturday’s Six Nations clash at Twickenham and says there is "a good vibe" in the squad.

Wales impressed in the tournament opener following a 34-7 demolition job on Scotland as now they head to Twickenham aiming to become the first side to beat England on their home ground under coach Eddie Jones.

“It’s Wales versus England, and I know there is a lot of hype there, but we are really happy with the result last week and so there is a good vibe in the squad,” Wales prop Evans said.

“Obviously that helps after a good win, but we aren’t afraid of anything.

“We are looking forward to playing England on the weekend. We are there to do a job, really, and get a result, so that is the main priority for us.”

Both Wales and England displayed strong set-piece performances in their opening game wins against Scotland and Italy, with the scrum and lineout battle likely to be decisive in terms of deciding Saturday’s battle.

Evans will feature with his Scarlets teammates Ken Owens and Samson Lee in the Wales front-row, while England look set to continue with Mako Vunipola, Dylan Hartley and Dan Cole.

“We always prioritise our scrum,” Evans added. “We went into the (Scotland) game wanting to provide a platform for the backs to use the ball, and we were pretty happy with the way we came out of it.

“We thought we were pretty positive throughout the game and, yeah, we are really happy with the way our set-piece is going at the moment.

“This Saturday is a big test for us, but we spoke today and it is a test we are really looking forward to.

“England always have a good pack, they have such strength in depth. You are never going to play against a poor England pack.

“I don’t think we are too bad, either. I am sure it will be a good test, but we are not scared or anything. We are looking forward to it.”

The Wales and England forwards got to grips with each other during an opposed scrummaging training session in Bristol last autumn, and Evans said: “It was good, I thought we got quite a bit out of it. We were pretty happy with how the session went.

“It was a fair old few scrums – 12, something like that – and a few lineouts in there as well. But we haven’t really talked about that this week.

“It was back in the autumn, and things change. We have focused on ourselves and getting our own ship in order, as we do every week.

“We have obviously had a look at them, but we will focus on ourselves this week and bring that into Saturday.”
