Waratahs came up with a 12-try performance as they trounced Sunwolves 77-25 in their Super Rugby face-off at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

Waratahs are now assured the top spot in the Australian Conference as they also confirm their berth in the play-off while Sunwolves languish at the bottom of the same group.

Sekope Kepu (11'), Israel Folau (25' and 38'), Kurtley Beale (34') scored the first half tries for Waratahs with Bernard Foley kicking conversions on two occasions to take their total to 24 points before the break.

Winger Akihito Yamada and Michael crossed over for the visitors in the 22nd and 28th minutes with Hayden Parker kicking two penalties and a conversion to take their tally to 18 points but just before the break they suffered a setback when Semisi Masirewa was sent-off for a tip-tackle on Foley.

Waratahs made full use of the red card to Masirewa as they amassed eight tries in the second half with Ned Hanigan (44'), Nic Phipps (47'), Taqele Naiyaravoro (52' and 72'), Curtis Rona (61'), Michael Wells (65') and Alex Newsome (75' and 79') going over the line to complete a massive 77-25 victory that steers the Australian side to the knock-out stage.
