Toulouse 30-23 Lyon, Stade Ernest Wallon
Scorecard

Wandie Mjekevu scored two first-half tries as Toulouse went on to beat Lyon 30-23 in their European Rugby Challenge Cup encounter at Stade Ernest Wallon on Thursday.

Lyon's progress were hampered by a red card to Timilai Rokoduru in the 32nd minute but despite being down to 14 men, they showed great character but could not quite cross the line.

Scrum half Jean-Marc Doussain started the proceedings with back to back penalties to take Toulouse to 6-0 in the first 10 minutes following which South African wing Mjekevu crossed over in the 25th and 30th minutes. The scrum half converted both the tries and the home side increased their lead to 20-0.

Despite losing Rokoduru to a red card, Lyon managed to add their first points at the stroke of half time with penalties from Jonathan Pelissie to bring down the trail to 14 points.

Fullback Yoann Huget extended Toulouse's advantage with a try at the start of the second half but Lyon bounced back through a touchdown from Theo Belan with Pelissie kicking a penalty and a conversion on either side to make it 25-16.

The bonus point for Toulouse came with their fourth try that came in the 62nd minute and despite a last gasp effort from Jone Tuva, Lyon went on to lose the Pool 2 encounter by seven points.

Toulouse and Lyon are now positioned second and third respectively in Pool 2 of the Challenge Cup.
