England flanker Tom Wood is a doubtful starter for the upcoming Six Nations clash against Wales at Principality Stadium on Saturday after suffering a shoulder injury.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury during England's 19-16 defeat to France at Twickenham last weekend and was unable to train this week.

In the case of Wood missing out against Wales, Jack Clifford is the likely starter at openside, with Maro Itoje and Nathan Hughes continuing at blindside and number eight respectively.

Hughes himself is struggling with a knee discomfort but the lack of choices and the inexperience in the back-row will mean the 25-year-old is certain to be involved in the clash against Wales.

Based on the training on Tuesday, Jonny May might make way for Jack Nowell on the right wing while Henry Slade, who is a part of the 24-man squad is likely to continue as travelling reserve.
