Rugby New Year Wishes for 2019

All the focus will be on the World Cup in Japan
All the focus will be on the World Cup in Japan

The year of 2018 comes to an end and rugby union continues to build its global reputation with a few ugly moments on the way. The fans have seen the Irish National team beat the All Blacks and take the 6 Nations; perhaps making them favourites for the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

So what are we wishing for in 2019

1/ an attacking 6 Nations with a resurgent French Team. Prediction: Wales to take the title
2/ Australia and South Africa to overturn the All Blacks in The Rugby Championship. Prediction: South Africa to take the honours
3/ a highly competitive Rugby World Cup in Japan. Prediction: Irish Rugby to stay on a high

There’s some technical wishes:

A/ improved refereeing of the scrum; maybe a specialist official to get involved
B/ consultation on officiating the offside line; perhaps it’s Hawk-Eye Technology
C/ encourage finding space not bigger hits; let’s get away from hits and talk tackles
D/ continued development of National Leagues and BUCS Rugby to feed Championship and Premiership Teams
E/ greater coverage of BUCS Women’s Rugby; it has the potential to fuel women’s Rugby

Importantly we’d like to wish all those associated with TalkingRugbyUnion continued enjoyment of our great game. As we have said from our early days, it’s not how big you are, it’s how big you play. Let’s add to that - enjoy. 2019 is destined to be a massive year for rugby union, the highlight being the Rugby World Cup in Japan. It’s a fantastic location and serves to remind us all that the game is developing beyond those so called tier 1 nations.

TalkingRugbyUnion will continue its independent and alternative rugby content throughout the game. We might make a few mistakes on the way but will always seek to resolve. We remain committed to providing a showcase for rugby players and journalists alike; feel free to talk rugby union with us
