Rebels registered their first win in the ongoing Super Rugby AU competition after they went on to defeat Waratahs 10-29 at Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Rebels now move to the third place in the table with six points while Waratahs are at fourth place with six points.

Matt Toomua started the proceedings with a fourth minute penalty goal but Waratahs were the first to score a try as Alex Newsome crossed over in the seventh minute.

Rebels seized the lead back with Toomua kicking back to back penalties but the home side struck back with a three-pointer from Will Harrison to make it 10-9.

Waratahs suffered a setback around the half-hour mark when Michael Hooper was yellow-carded for a foul and Toomua responded immediately with a penalty kick to make it 10-12 before Ryan Louwrens' try at the stroke of break increased the Rebels' lead to 10-19.

Both teams had to pay for errors in the start of the second half and it was in the 70th minute Rebels were provided with a opportunity after Jed Holloway was yellow carded for an offside. Toomua's penalty kick took Rebels to safety taking their lead to 10-22 before Marika Koroibete's try in the 78th minute ensured they completed a comfortable win.
