The new England Rugby 2016-17 alternate kit from Canterbury, unveiled by Maro Itoje, Jack Nowell and George Kruis along with Women’s players Rochelle Clark, Lydia Thompson and Vicky Fleetwood has reintroduced the popular navy blue colour.

Apart from the navy blue colour, the kit also incorporates red and white along with a unique graphic of the St George’s cross printed onto the shirt.

A 3D rose on the kit is a nod to the tradition between 1871 and 1919 where the players embroidered an individual rose whereas the current collar design is inspired by the first ever England Rugby jersey.

England captain Dylan Hartley highlighted that the 3D Rose and the St George’s cross are the key attractions of the alternate kit as they highlight the team’s commitment to the history.

“I push myself and I push the team, we strive for improvement, and that’s represented in the kit we wear.

“It’s a huge honour to put on the England shirt.

“To have the Rose and St Georges Cross on while we play highlights the commitment to our country, to our history and to rugby.”

At the launch, Clark, who has played for England 113 times, said, “I’m proud to wear the shirt. I’m honoured to represent my country. I can walk onto the pitch and know I’m going make history. It’s all about the rose.”

The men’s side will don the alternate jersey during their Old Mutual Wealth series against Fiji on 19th November while the women’s team will also wear the kit during their new season.
