Lancashire 25-13 Surrey, Richmond

Lancashire Women went on to claim the Gill Burns County Championship defeating Surrey Women's team 25-13 in the final of the tournament in Richmond on Sunday.

Despite, Surrey's domination in territory and possession, it was Lancashire, who got the points on the board with a try from Vanessa Temple. As Surrey were struggling to get off the mark, Igemi Ekoku gave Lancashire a clear advantage after going past the line as they raced to a 12-0 lead at half time.

Replacement winger Rowanne Smalley further pressed on the advantage at the start of the second half with a touchdown as Lancashire reached 19 points.

Surrey bounced back after their opening try came from Vic Britland, who also added a penalty and few minutes later Vicki Boothman capitalised on the rolling maul to score their second try as the gap between the two teams came down to six points.

However, Lancashire opted to clear their lines to put off Surrey and further two penalties from fly-half Beth Stott ensured they completed a 25-13 victory.
