Reece Hodge scored a double while fly-half Bernard Foley contributed with 17 points as Australia went on to defeat Argentina 20-37 in their Rugby Championship 2017 encounter at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

The win also means Australia have leapfrogged South Africa to the second position in the table with a one-point lead.

After 14 minutes went without a point, Foley kicked a penalty to begin the proceedings for the Wallabies and five minutes later Marika Koroibete crossed over as they claimed an eight point lead.

Argentina replied back strong with Matias Alemanno dancing past the post while Nicolas Sanchez kicked the extras and also followed with two more penalties to take them to 13 points at half time. Hodge's first of the two tries came in the 33rd minute as the scores were level 13-13 leading into the second half.

Foley's converted try after restart provided Australia advantage with a seven point lead but once again Argentina went on to level the scores following a crossover from Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias.

As the game was evenly poised at the end of the third quarter, Will Genia and Hodge scored further tries while Foley slotted two conversions and a penalty to help Michael Cheika's men complete a 17 point victory.
