England Students announce squad to face Ireland

Seven Loughborough players have been named in the England Students squad for their international against Ireland.

Loughborough reached the last four of the BUCS Championships, but have the highest amount of representatives in the side that face Ireland Universities next Sunday.

Issac Miller, Mat Macpherson, Harrison Nutall, Callum Watson, Sam Pointon, Mark Dixon and Will Kaye have all been named in the 23-man squad.

Bath University captain Will Briton and Charlie Dunbar are also in the Students side, but there are no players from Hartpury College and Exeter in this squad due to their involvement in the BUCS Championship finals next Thursday at Twickenham.

Elsewhere in the squad, Durham have three players in the squad while Sunderland and Darlington Mowden Park forward Simon Uzokwe has also been included amongst the 23.

Head Coach Aaron James told the RFU website: “It’s been probably one of the most difficult selections given that the BUCS Final is on the Thursday before," said James. 

“But it gives more guys the chance to represent England Students. We brought forty players to Coventry and had a very good training day with the wider squad, quite an intense session and it was great to see that we’ve got some really good talent across the student game."

“We’ve made everyone available again for France. But look, the first game’s Ireland. So now we go into camp next Wednesday, and having done the training day we’re confident that we’re one day ahead in our preparation.”

England play Ireland in Oxford before hosting France at Bristol on April 7^th.
