Wasps 7-9 Edinburgh, Ricoh Arena
Scorecard

Replacement Jaco van der Walt scored the decisive penalty goal in the closing stage as Edinburgh edged out Wasps with a two-point victory in their European Rugby Challenge Cup at Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

Edinburgh now have three wins from four matches as they now have narrowed down the gap over Pool 3 winners Bordeaux Begles to just one point while Wasps are at third - 10 points behind the Scottish side.

The game went without a point for the first 18 minutes before Simon Hickey got Edinburgh off the mark with a penalty goal but Wasps had the lead going into the break with Nizaam Carr's try in the 35th minute and Lima Sopoaga followed with the conversion making it 7-3.

Both the sides were desperate for breakthrough in the second half but the gap remained four points for the most part after the break before Josh Bassett's yellow-card in the 68th minute allowed Edinburgh an opening which they seized with back to back penalties from van der Walt to complete a 7-9 win for Richard Cockerill's men.

Edinburgh will now face Bordeaux Begles in the fifth round of the tournament at Stade Chaban-Delmas on 11th January while Wasps will lock horns with Castres.
