Connacht back-row Abraham Papali’i has signed a contract extension with the Pro14 club for the 2021/22 season.

Having started his career in rugby league, the 27-year-old switched codes in 2019 and went on to make his debut for Connacht in 2020. Since then, he has featured in 11 games for the Irish province in which he scored three tries.

Connacht head coach Andy Friend is delighted with Papali’i extending his stay with the club.

“I’ve been really pleased with Abraham’s progression since he joined us," said Friend to club's official website.

"He’s had to adapt to the rigours of rugby union as well as an off-field culture change, made no easier by the pandemic, and we are now seeing the fruits of his hard work.

"His last few performances have been very impressive and we look forward to seeing him continue his development into next season.”

Connacht kick-started their Rainbow Cup campaign with a 26-24 victory against Ulster and will lock horns with Leinster at the Sportsground on 8th May.
