International rugby body World Rugby has confirmed that the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens will be held in Cape Town.
The World Cup will be the eighth for men and the fourth for women in Africa for the first time. It will be contested by 24 men's and 16 women's teams.
The first eight men's teams and top four women's teams from the most recent RWC Sevens, which took place in San Francisco in 2018, have already qualified for the event in 2022 by automatic qualifying. The defending champions are New Zealand, England, South Africa, Fiji, Argentina, the United States, France, and Scotland.
The Springbok women's sevens squad will compete against reigning champions New Zealand, France, Australia, and the United States in Cape Town this weekend in terms of women's teams. Teams who did not qualify automatically will do so through their various regional championships, conducted in North America, South America, and Africa, among other locations. Sixteen spots are available in the men's tournament from regional contests, and 11 sites are general in the women's tournament.
The Venue of Rugby World Cup Seven 2022
The event will take place in the Cape Town Stadium in the South African capital of Cape Town.
In its Interim Meeting in Tokyo on 30 October 2019, the World Rugby Council granted the hosting rights for the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 to South Africa. This is the first time the tournament is given to a country other than the United States.
When the Rugby World Cup Sevens return to Cape Town in September of 2022, it will be the first time the event has been hosted on the African continent. This will be the eighth edition of the showcase event and the first time that it has been held on the African continent.
During three days of action at the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, the world's finest 24 men's and 16 women's rugby sevens teams will battle for the title of world champions.
For the first time, the rugby Sevens will be held simultaneously in both the men's and women's divisions across three days of play as part of the redesigned World Rugby Sevens Series. The 55,000-seat stadium has hosted the Cape Town Sevens since 2015.
The second time that the Rugby World Cup Sevens will be held in the United States, following the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in San Francisco, which garnered a record attendance of more than 100,000 fans.
Both the men's and women's national teams from New Zealand won the three-day tournament, which was held at AT&T Park and made a US$90.5 million economic impact to the city of San Francisco, according to Nielsen Sports.
The decision to give the tournament to South Africa follows an initial record of 11 unions — Argentina, the Cayman Islands, France, Germany, India, Jamaica, Malaysia, Qatar, Scotland, South Africa, and Tunisia – confirming their interest in the international federation in the event.
South Africa will have to wait For Long to Host another World Cup Rugby Again.
It continues to irritate me that the 2023 World Cup will be staged in France rather than South Africa, even though the Rugby World Cup Limited board recommended SA to the World Rugby Council.
France, Australia, and the United States are all slated to compete in the following three tournaments, Japan's next accessible men's Rugby event.
The World Cup will be placed in 2035, which is long away.
However, the majority of people did not agree. It was announced in 2017 that the South African Rugby Union had secured government backing for their candidacy for the 2023 World Cup. The Springboks were the current world champions, having won two titles, at the time of the decision. South Africa has only hosted the event once, in 1995.
It is unfair that South Africa must wait at least 40 years for the Rugby World Cup to be played on African soil once more. England hosted the duties in 1991, 1999, 2015, Australia, 1987, 2003, and now 2027, New Zealand in 1987 and 2011, and France hosted or shared hosting duties in 1991, 1999, 2007, and now 2023 other countries.
