Cardiff Blues announced on Wednesday that Wales international Tom James has extended his contract with the Pro12 club after signing a new long-term deal.

The 29-year-old was part of the Cardiff based outfit between 2006 and 2013 following which he joined the Aviva Premiership club Exeter Chiefs. However, he returned back to the Blues last season after signing a new two-year deal.

James made his international debut for Wales in August 2007 and has played 12 Tests till now with his last appearance coming in February 2016 against Scotland.

Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson believes James is an integral part of the club and is hoping for key contributions from him in the ongoing season.

"Tom is a superb player and has shown exactly what he is capable of in the opening weeks of this season.

"He is fast, powerful, defends well and does the basics well. He is a key player for us and will be an important part of what we are trying to build here.

"I am delighted we have been able to secure one of the in-form Welsh players to a new, long-term contract, and hope there are many more performances like we have seen so far this season to come."
