The former England international will take on a mountain biking and hiking challenge at the end of April in the Lake District to raise money for charity.

Former England rugby international Ugo Monye will be taking part in a nine hour mountain biking and hiking challenge in the Lake District to raise money for BT Sport’s charitable initiative – The Supporters Club.

Monye, who retired from rugby at the end of last season, will take on some of the most difficult trails and routes across the Lake District on April 23rd and the whole challenge will be filmed as part of a mini-documentary that will air on BT Sport in the coming weeks.

The ex-Harlequins winger will be raising money via BT MyDonate and will face a 38km biking challenge with a 1,000m of ascent in the morning, followed by an afternoon hike of 12km with 800m of ascent.

He said:  “It is a challenge which I wanted to get involved with and I am thrilled to have accepted the challenge for a great cause as well.

“It is a heck of a challenge! It is a mixture of biking and hiking which is something I am not too familiar with, but now I am retired, it is great to put yourself under some physical stress. I have always been a competitive person so this challenge certainly ties in with all the things I have been used to over the last decade or so.”

The current BT Sport pundit added: “The BT Supporters club is something that I have been involved with since last year.

“It is all about helping under privileged kids and kids from all different types of backgrounds and just using rugby and sport to help them become better people and better equipped to deal with life while raising money at the same time.

“The initiative is absolutely outstanding. The Supporters Club is bringing together people who love sport, which is exactly what we did last year with the ‘Rugby Squad’. I loved it.

"That was also using younger guys and this is just another way of raising awareness and money via BT MyDonate. I am going to send a link via my Twitter and hope to raise as much money as possible for worthy causes.

“I have not been out of the game too long just yet, but this is going to be pretty strenuous. I have only been to the Lake District for lovely weekends away so I will be coming back not refreshed and probably pretty broken, but I am really looking forward to the challenge!
