Full-back Tom Banks has committed his immediate future with Rugby Australia and Brumbies after signing a three-year deal.

The 24-year-old made his debut with Queensland Reds in 2015 and switched to Brumbies in 2017 where he represents them in the Super Rugby competition and Canberra Vikings in Mitre 10 Cup.

Banks has overall played 28 Super Rugby games with 26 out of it coming for Brumbies in the last two seasons.

“It’s something I have really wanted to do, play for the Wallabies and play for the Brumbies. I think signing a longer term deal allows me to do that and gives me confidence and it’s pretty exciting moving forward,” Banks said.

“I like where the team is going and I like the players that are involved. I think we can build something special and that really appealed to me.

“The fact that the World Cup is coming up is always on your mind but you have to put that aside and just try to play your best footy at club level which is what I need to do to get in the frame for Wallabies selection”.

Banks made his Test debut for Australia during the Bledisloe Cup clash against the All Blacks in August last year and has so far featured in three games for the national side with his last appearance coming against New Zealand during their clash in Tokyo in October.

Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika lavished praise on Banks and is hoping for him to make heavy strides in Australian rugby.

“Tom has shown himself to be a player who is ready to step up to Test standard. He plays in a very competitive position and his consistency, commitment and performances in the back half of last year put him into a Test jersey for small patches.

“By re-signing with the Brumbies he has shown that he is committed to become a Test match regular and I am looking forward to watching his performances back that up.”
