Chiefs faced their first defeat this season as Stormers registered a 34-26 victory in their Super Rugby clash at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

This is Stormers sixth consecutive win this season as they continue to top the table in Africa 1 Conference while Chiefs have slipped to third position in New Zealand Conference.

Number eight Sikhumbuzo Notshe scored an early try in the game while Robert du Preez added a conversion to take a 7-0 lead. However, they suffered a setback when Cobus Wiese was sin-binned in the seventh minute following which Toni Pulu crossed over for the visitors with Aaron Cruden adding a conversion and a penalty to take three point lead.

Stormers were relentless in their attack after Siya Kolisi went past the line in the 19th minute and du Preez conversion to bring the home side back into a four point lead.

The momentum once again shifted to Chiefs after Pulu scored his second try but Stormers ended the first half on a high with a 24-18 lead following a converted try by du Preez.

SP Marais and Cruden exchanged penalties at the start of the second half, the Stormers fullback added a try as well in the 51st minute to take them to 34 points. Even though James Lowe scored a consolation try, the Chiefs succumbed to an eight point defeat.
