South Africa have made progress in the World Rugby Rankings following their 34-36 victory over New Zealand in the recently concluded round of the Rugby Championship in Wellington.

The win which was also Springboks' first in New Zealand in the last nine years saw them earn two rating points that took their tally to 83.35 and in the process they went past Australia and Scotland to the fifth position.

Meanwhile, New Zealand have lost two rating points following their defeat - which was also their first at home since they last lost to British and Irish Lions in 2017 as their gap over second placed Ireland have come down to 2.40 points.

The game between Argentina and Australia in Gold Coast was full of action with the Pumas registering their first win over the Wallabies since 1983, courtesy a 15-point contribution from Nicolas Sanchez while winger Bautista Delguy was the other try-scorer for them.

Despite, the win, Argentina continue to remain at ninth place but their gain of two rating points has now seen them close the gap with the eighth placed France to just 0.08 points.

However, the defeat further hampered Michael Cheika's tough year with Australia as they slip to their lowest ever ranking of seventh place with 82.45 points.
