Newcastle Falcons 24-27 Toulon, Kingston Park
Scorecard

Bastien Soury scored the decisive try in the 74th minute as Toulon managed to edge out Newcastle Falcons 24-27 in their European Rugby Champions Cup clash at Kingston Park on Friday.

Both Toulon and Newcastle are out of play-offs as they managed just 10 and nine points respectively to take the bottom two positions in Pool 5.

The first six minutes of the game saw Josh Matavesi and Daniel Ikpefan exchange tries and with both Toby Flood and Louis Carbonel slotting conversions the scores remained levelled 7-7.

A 28th minute penalty goal from Flood gave the Falcons lead but it was short-lived as Filipo Nakosi sped past the Falcons defence to go over the line. Carbonel followed it with a conversion and a penalty goal to give Toulon seven point lead heading into the break.

Carbonel kicked another penalty goal after the break to extend the French side's lead to 10 points but as the final 10 minutes kicked-off, Newcastle stepped up the ante with back to back tries from Nemani Nagusa and Michael Young to give them a four point lead.

The late momentum put the home side in the driver's seat and just when they thought to have ended the tournament on a high, replacement Soury powered past the Falcons to dive over the line and Anthony Belleau's conversion saw Toulon complete a 24-27 victory.
