Blues 40-63 Sharks, Eden Park
Robert du Preez scored a try among his 38 points on Saturday as the Sharks thrashed the Blues 40-63 in Super Rugby clash at Eden Park.
The Sharks had one win from five games – and the Blues one win from four – entering Saturday’s match.
The Sharks ended a two-match losing streak when they secured a deserved victory.
The Sharks led by 19 points at the half-time, and despite falling behind after a stunning fightback from the Blues early in the second half, it was eventually the superb kicking of du Preez that proved to be the difference.
Both teams scored six tries apiece.
Michael Collins (22), Akira Ioane (45), Patrick Tuipulotu (51), Stephen Perofeta (53), Rieko Ioane (75) and George Moala (80) scored tries for the hosts while Ruan Botha (11), Jean-Luc du Preez (34), Lubabalo Mtembu (57), Robert du Preez (60), Jacobus Van Wyk (72) and Curwin Bosch (81+3) returned the favor on behalf of the visitors.
This is the sort of result that could ignite a turnaround in the Sharks’ campaign.
