Lions managed to hold off a late charge from Jaguares as they sealed a 47-39 win in their Super Rugby encounter at Emirates Airlines Park on Saturday.

The win is Lions' second in four games as they accumulated nine points that saw them positioned fourth in the South African Conference while Jaguares are also at third in the same group.

Rhyno Herbst (15'), Elton Jantjies (24'), Kwagga Smith (27') and Wandisile Simelane (35') scored first-half tries for Lions. Jantjies also kicked the conversions on the three occasions as the home side amassed 26 points before the break.

Ramiro Moyano Joya and Julian Montoya scored first half tries for Jaguares. Joaquin Diaz Bonilla missed both the conversions but had a penalty early in the game as the scoreline was 26-13.

Any chance of a Jaguares comeback was put off with Marnus Schoeman (45') and Courtnall Skosan (47' and 50') crossing over that took their tally to 47 points and despite a fightback from Jaguares in the final 30 minutes where Montoya (54'), Gaspar Baldunciel (72'), Matias Moroni (80') Joaquin Tuculet (80+1) all scoring tries the visitors went on to lose the game by eight points.
