Bristol Rugby thrashed Pau at the Ashton Gate Stadium on Sunday to secure 41-14 emphatic victory in Europe for the first time in almost eight years.

The hosts ran seven try as opposed to two scored by the French side.

Fullback Jack Wallace (2), right-wing Tom Varndell (17), fly-half Billy Searle (25), inside-centre Luke Arscott (32), outside-centre Thretton Palamo (41) scored a try each for Bristol while replacement hooker Chris Brooker (71, 76) scored a late double.

Searle managed to make two conversions while his replacement Adrian Jarvis slotted one conversion.

In response, right-wing Watisoni Votu (20) and his replacement Thibault Daubagna (78) scored tries for Pau.

Fly-half Brandon Fajardo successfully converted the two tries for the visitors.

The two teams will once again face each other at Stade du Hameau on coming Friday for the reverse Pool 4 fixture.
