Fly-half Finn Russell will miss Scotland's upcoming Six Nations clash against France in Paris on Saturday following a concussion.

The 26-year-old sustained the blow while playing for his club Racing 92 during the recently concluded Top 14 clash against Toulouse and was replaced during the first half.

Russell, who has played for the Dark Blues in 42 Tests underwent return to play protocols that indicated that he is still experiencing some discomfort thereby ruling him out of the weekend's encounter.

"The 26-year-old playmaker has not satisfied the requirements of today's component of the graduated return to play protocol... meaning there is insufficient time for him to be considered for this weekend's action," a statement released by the Scottish Rugby Union said.

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has recalled Duncan Weir as a cover for Russell.

Meanwhile, the statement also confirmed that fullback Stuart Hogg will not join the squad this week as he continues to recover from the shoulder injury that he sustained against Ireland in the second round.

Scotland started the 2019 Six Nations campaign with a 33-20 win over Italy but lost to Ireland 13-22 in the second round and are positioned third in the table.
